Who's behind it all?

One may ask, how did Sorsogon State College become a partner of Commission on Information and Communication technologyICT in its ischools project?

It all started from Commission on Information and Communication Technology’s simple letter which invited the Information and Communications Technology Coordinators to attend an orientation. It was a correspondence with vague agenda. The SSC, with a supportive president, sent the school’s ICT Director.

Mrs. Maritess Carreon, Thess, to her friends was designated as the ICT Director, with qualifications of a master’s degree in IT earned from The University of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia. Although very young at the age of 34, her two kids are already both high school students in the Philippine Science High School. This gave her more time to devote attention to the duties and responsibilities of the position plus the good fortune of working with her husband in the same office. With academic and behavioral characteristics that fit her to the position, she followed suit.

Coming from the southern tip of Luzon, it took her lots of guts and energy to be at the venue on time. Confusion on the bus’ departure time forced her to travel in a single motorcycle. It was a one-hour ride with one of her arms used to hug the driver, who luckily happened to be her husband, and the other arm to keep a tight grip of her luggage. They hoped to catch the bus in its next stop, fifty nine kilometers away from their origin. With luck and no luck, the bus continued to its destination without her, but another bus got her in.
Despite those problems, the following day, she was able to arrive safely and successfully at the venue. Out of more than 60 state universities and colleges, 25 submitted attendance of participation to the CICT’s letter. She finally met the other representatives of the 24 SUCs in the City of Tagaytay. Had it not been to her initiative to push through the travel after missing the bus, SSC would not be a partner of CICT in the project.

Mam Thess was designated as the SSC’s coordinator to the CICT’s ischools project since the orientation in Tagaytay. She assigned particular fellow faculty members from the school to compose the team of SSC to work in the project. Series of trainings were attended by the team which was expected to continue for the next three years. The team from SSC worked fine with a coordinator like Mam Thess.
